PCIhandler is a freeware image viewing application available from PCI (Ontario, Canada) and is very useful for browsing GEOTIFF imagery. Versions for SGI IRIX, MACINTOSH, SUN SOLARIS, WINDOWS 3.1, WINDOWS 95, and WINDOWS NT are included on this CD-ROM as self extracting archives and executables. The executable will allow you to run PCIhandler directly from this CD-ROM if you choose not to install the archive to your local disk.

If this is the first time you are using PCIhandler, it must be associated with the imagery (i.e., the tif images files). In NETSCAPE go to OPTIONS from the pulldown menu and select GENERAL PREFERENCES. Choose the HELPERS tab and select the CREATE NEW TYPE button. In the "Configure New Mime Type" window, enter either "application" or "image" as the Mime Type, and "tif" as the Mime Subtype. Click OK. Check that the file extensions dialogue is set to "tif" in the HELPERS window. Click on the BROWSE button to navigate to the executable version of PCIhandler for your operating system. On this CD-ROM, the main path is: \software\pci\executable. After making your selection, click OK. Check that "launch the application" has been selected. Finally, click OK to associate the viewer with the data images. Now it will be possible to click on a desired image file name (in the data directory) to display the image using PCIhandler.

Alternatively, you can select any tif file and NETSCAPE should determine the correct Mime Type/Subtype and prompt you for the location of PCIhandler.
