What's New on the SPI CD-ROM 1929-2000
November 2001
- State annual estimates for 1998-99 have been revised since the
release of the SPI CD-ROM in November 2000, and incorporate the
results of the most recent revisions of the national income and
product accounts (NIPA's) that were released on July 27, 2001 and
newly available state source data that are more complete, more
detailed, and otherwise more appropriate than data previously
available.

Interim State Per Capita Personal Income Estimates: 1991-2000
- Interim state per capita personal income estimates for 1991-2000 were
released October 19, 2001. In its press release of September 24, 2001
on state personal income, BEA announced that it would delay its
release of state per capita personal income until the Census Bureau
had announced its decision on adjustments to the population counts
released in March 2001 for redistricting purposes.
- The Census Bureau announced on October 17, 2001 that it would not
adjust the population counts and that remaining Census 2000 data
products, postcensal estimates and survey controls would use the
unadjusted counts. The Census Bureau will provide state population
estimates for 1991-1999 consistent with the 2000 counts in March 2002.
- In the interim, to provide its users with state per capita personal
income estimates for 1991-1999 consistent with the 2000 population
count, BEA has developed population estimates and incorporated them
into interim state per capita personal income estimates. Upon release
by the Census Bureau of population estimates for those years, BEA will
substitute the Census population estimates and issue revised state per
capita personal income estimates.
