================================================================== 1999 Small Businesss Resource Guide March 2, 1999 ================================================================== The 1999 Small Businesss Resource Guide CD-ROM is supplied with Adobe Acrobat Exchange 3.01. This version of Acrobat enables you to save your Fill-In-Forms to disk. You may view, search, fill in, and print Acrobat documents from within your browser. However, if you intend to save the forms after filling in the information, you must open and complete them in Acrobat Exchange. The 1999 Small Businesss Resource Guide CD-ROM requires a Web Browser. Netscape Communicator 4.5 is supplied on the Resource Guide CD-ROM. If you are sure your computer does not have a browser, install Netscape during the Resource Guide Setup. System Requirements: Windows 95/98/NT 4.0 486 or Pentium (recommended) 24 MB RAM 40 MB of available hard drive space Installation: Windows Users: 1. Choose "Run" from the "Start" button; type [cd-drive]:setup.exe 2. Follow the instructions on your screen. 3. To begin the program, double-click the "Resource Guide 1999" icon found on your desktop. You may also start the program by going to the "Small Business Resource Guide" folder in the "Start" "Programs" menu. Troubleshooting: Problem: "I get an error when I start the Resource Guide setup." Solution: If you receive an error upon initiating setup, please be sure all applications (including anti-virus software) have been closed. Problem: "When I resize my Netscape window, the screen disappears and I get a message that says my browser does not support frames." Solution: Stretch your browser window back to full size and click the reload button at the top of your screen. Netscape has problems resizing frames. Problem: "When I start the SBRG Program, I get an error that says my Browser does not support frames." Solution: You must have a JavaScript-enabled Browser that supports frames. See your Browser's help documentation to enable JavaScript. If your Browser does not support JavaScript and frames, upgrade your Browser. Netscape Communicator 4.5 is supplied on the SBRG CD-ROM. Netscape users: Be sure the browser window is full size, then click the reload button. Problem: "When I click the Back or Forward tab, I get a another image of the tabs below the original tabs." Solution: This occurs in Internet Explorer when you have gone all the way forward or back. Simply click the Home tab to refresh your screen. Problem: "I'm not able to save my fill-in forms." Solution: You can only save fill-in forms (pdf files) by using Acrobat Exchange. Open your files in Acrobat Exchange instead of Acrobat Reader or your browser when you want to save the files. Problem: "I get an error when I try to save my fill-in forms." Solution: Do not attempt to save your forms on the CD-ROM. Use "Save As" to save the files to your hard drive. Problem: "My printer doesn't have enough memory to print an Acrobat file." Solution: Try to print one page or a group of pages at a time. If possible, upgrade your printer memory. Problem: "Acrobat Reader opens my .pdf files. I want Acorbat Exchange to open them so I can save the data I enter in my fill-in forms." Solutions: Windows uses the last Adobe Acrobat product installed on your computer as the default "open" program. A version of Acrobat Reader may have been installed after Acrobat Exchange was loaded. Reinstall Acrobat Exchange from the Small Business Resource Guide Setup. OR Open Acrobat Exchange on your computer before selecting any .pdf files. Windows will use the Adobe Acrobat product that is open as the default application. Problem: "I get the error "The maximum number of files is already open" while viewing Acrobat files in Internet Explorer." Solutions: Close Acrobat, which is running in the background, to clear the memory. Acrobat will re-launch the next time you select a pdf file. You will need to do this each time you encounter the error. or Edit the "acroread.ini" and/or "acroexch.ini" files located in the Windows folder. This will permanently correct the error. This can be accomplished by opening the files in Notepad or WordPad. Find the line called "maxopendocuments=10". Change the number "10" to a higher number of your choice. Most computers can easily handle 25 or more files before running out of memory. BE SURE TO USE "SAVE AS" TO SAVE THE FILE IN TEXT FORMAT. YOU WANT TO OVERWRITE THE EXISTING FILE. Notepad automatically saves files as text files. You must choose "text format" as the type of file to save from WordPad. Problem: "I didn't install Netscape during setup. Now, I want to." Solution: Run the following setup from the SBRG CD-ROM: [cd drive]:\netscape\cc32e45.exe OR Re-run "setup.exe" from the SBRG CD-ROM. Problem: "I can only search the Acrobat file that is open. I want to be able to search all of the Acrobat files at once." Solution: Power-Users: You can load the Search Index from any pdf file. It is located in the "pdfs" folder on the SBRG CD-ROM. Note: Browsers do not support Index Search. You must use Acrobat Exchange or Acrobat Reader with search to perform an Index Search. Novice-Users: You must open the file called "Fill-in Forms Index" directly in Acrobat Exchange or in a version of Acrobat Reader with Search. A shortcut to the file may be found in the "Small Business Resource Guide" folder in the "Start" "Programs" menu. When the "Fill-in Forms Index" file is opened, a search index will automatically load enabling you to search across all Acrobat files on the SBRG CD-ROM. When you perform the search, be sure to use the icon with the binoculars and paper. If your search icon only has binoculars, you are in a version of Acrobat Reader without Index Search capabilities. Browsers will only search the active Acrobat file. Problem: "I'm having trouble with Internet Explorer 5.0." Note: The SBRG 1999 CD-ROM was developed before the final release of Internet Explorer 5.0. Therefore, there was no testing of Internet Explorer 5.0.
