A short story accompanies the image and reads, in part: "A million and a half dollar contract...was signed in Washington [Executive Office Building]...The contract, which is sponsored and financed by the U.S. Foreign Operations Administration, provides a three-year cooperative arrangement between the Hoosier state university and Thailand's Thammasat University in Bangkok...Acceptance by I.U...is the second undertaking assumed by the University in Thailand. Last December the University entered into a similarly FOA financed contract amounting to $875,000 to assist in the development of teacher education...The major objective of the new public administration program will be the establishment of undergraduate and graduate training at the Thai university with facilities for training government officials and civil servants, conducting research, and providing consultative services to the government...Under the direction of Prof. Laves the University will send a staff of eight to Thailand to work with Thammasat officials..." |
