Brief Annotation:
Uses close-up photography, photomicrography, time-lapse photography and drawings to show the stages in the life cycle of a coelenterate, the freshwater jellyfish, Craspedacusta sowerbii. Examines its habitats, collection procedures, and feeding behavior, followed by details of the attached polyp stage and the free-swimming medusa stage. Clarifies sexual reproduction of the medusa stage and the three types of asexual reproduction: frustule formation, buds which remain attached and become a colony, and buds which become medusae. Summarizes with live-action photography and drawings of the life cycle.
