The National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education (NCPIE)

Why a Coalition for Parent Involvement

The National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education (NCPIE) is dedicated to developing effective family/school partnerships in schools throughout America.

Our mission is simple: to advocate the involvement of parents and families in their children’s education and to foster relationships between home, school, and community that can enhance the education of all our nation’s young people.

Many studies demonstrate clearly that family involvement encourages student achievement or other positive attitudes and behaviors that increase success in school. Policymakers, fortunately, are increasingly aware of the pivotal role families can play.

Title I and other federal programs, for instance, mandate consultation and collaboration with parents. Many state and district policies also stipulate programs to involve all parents and families, not only those in categorical programs.

But mandates alone cannot make family-school partnerships an ongoing, practical reality — and that’s where NCPIE comes in. We’re working to promote family school partnerships in every school in America.
