Hurricane Erin is seen in the Gulf of Mexico after its first landfall over Florida on August 3.

All the data in this image were derived from the visible, near and thermal IR bands from the AVHRR aboard the NOAA-12 satellite. The image was created by draping an RGB image over a digital elevation model (DEM) generated from cloud top temperatures. The DEM was derived from an inverted channel 4 band (thermal IR) while the RGB image was created using channel 4, channel 2 (near IR) , and channel 1 (visible). The perspective view represents an elevation of 89° from horizontal. The date of this scene is August 3, 1995 at 13:14 UTC.
