This diskette contains files for two publications, Braille Book Review and Talking Book Topics, published by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. These bimonthly publications list special-format books available to eligible readers through a national network of cooperating libraries. For your convenience, each publication is presented as a complete file and as several separate files representing the different sections of the issue. For the files that represent the various sections of the publication, the main part of each file name has seven or eight characters followed by a "txt" extension. The first character of the name is either a "b" or a "t"--"b" for Braille Book Review and "t" for Talking Book Topics. The second and third characters indicate the year. The fourth character is a hyphen, which acts as a separator. The fifth character is a number from 1 through 6 indicating the issue--1 for January-February, 2 for March-April, through 6 for November-December. The remaining characters are two- and three-letter codes that indicate the section of the publication. The sections are af - Adult Fiction anf - Adult Nonfiction cf - Children's Fiction cnf - Children's Nonfiction for - Foreign Language Books int - Introduction and In Brief section mag - Magazine section File names and descriptions for this diskette: BBR-98-3.txt Complete file of Braille Book Review, May-June 1998 B98-3AF.TXT Braille Book Review, May-June 1998, Adult Fiction books B98-3ANF.TXT Braille Book Review, May-June 1998, Adult Nonfiction books B98-3CF.TXT Braille Book Review, May-June 1998, Children's Fiction books B98-3CNF.TXT Braille Book Review, May-June 1998, Children's Nonfiction books B98-3INT.TXT Braille Book Review, May-June 1998, Introduction and In Brief section B98-3MAG.TXT Braille Book Review, May-June 1998, Braille Magazines README.TXT This file TBT-98-3.txt Complete file of Talking Book Topics, May-June 1998 T98-3AF.TXT Talking Book Topics, May-June 1998, Adult Fiction books T98-3ANF.TXT Talking Book Topics, May-June 1998, Adult Nonfiction books T98-3CF.TXT Talking Book Topics, May-June 1998, Children's Fiction books T98-3CNF.TXT Talking Book Topics, May-June 1998, Children's Nonfiction books T98-3INT.TXT Talking Book Topics, May-June 1998, Introduction and In Brief section T98-3MAG.TXT Talking Book Topics, May-June 1998, Talking Book Magazines T98-3FOR.TXT Talking Book Topics, May-June 1998, Foreign Language Books The files are presented as formatted ASCII text files with a line length of sixty characters. These files are offered in ASCII format so that they are readable by the widest possible variety of software and hardware configurations. Almost all DOS or Windows word-processing, editing, or spreadsheet software can read ASCII files. In most programs, you must use an "open," "retrieve," or "load" command and specify that an ASCII file is being read. Check your program's documentation for specific instructions on how to read ASCII (DOS) text files if you are unfamiliar with this procedure. Please note that features such as font size, page breaks, and other print attributes are controlled by the software used to read the files, rather than by the files themselves. The files are formatted so that users can make use of various software functions. Each book listing is followed by two number signs: ##. By setting your software's search feature to look for two number signs, you can easily move from one listing to the next. Category headings are preceded by three number signs: ###. Because ASCII files appear differently on different computers using a variety of software, it is not practical to provide a printable order form. You can, however, use your own software to create lists of desired books that you can send to your cooperating library. These lists should include your name and address. At this time, you may continue to receive this computer diskette format plus another format of Braille Book Review and Talking Book Topics. For subscription changes or to order books, please contact your local cooperating library.
