Putting the resources of the
Energy Information Administration
at your fingertips

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) is the leader in providing high-quality, policy-independent energy information to Government, industry, and the public, in a manner that promotes sound policy decisions, efficient markets, and public understanding. While an integral part of the Department of Energy, EIA is mandated to maintain a policy-neutral position as an unbiased source of energy information and analysis.

EIA collects, interprets, analyzes, and disseminates information on energy reserves, production, consumption, distribution, prices, technology, and related international, economic, and financial matters. Our data and analyses cover all the major energy sources: petroleum, natural gas, coal, nuclear, electricity, and alternate fuels. Our reports include statistical time series, projections of near- and mid-term future energy trends, and analyses of topical energy issues.

EIA has a long history of serving a broad spectrum of customers and being responsive to their needs. EIA's customer base encompasses all levels of government, the energy industry and others in the business community, students and other members of the academic community, the news media, private citizens, and information users around the world. EIA's motto is:

On-line or off the shelf, EIA is the first place to go for the last word in energy information.

More detailed information about the EIA, its mission, function, products, and services may be obtained by clicking on the "About Us" feature on the home page of the EIA Web site.

EIA is a member of FEDSTATS, a collection of more than 70 agencies in the United States Federal Government that produce statistics of interest to the public.  The Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy maintains the FEDSTATS Web site to provide easy access to the full range of statistics and information produced by these agencies for public use.
