**************************************************************************** Auxiliary files for COUNTY BUSINESS PATTERNS, 1987/88 or 1986/87, on CD-ROM **************************************************************************** The file CBPAUXIL.EXE contains auxiliary files (in compressed form) to allow the EXTRACT 1.2 software to work with either of the County Business Patterns (CBP) CD-ROMs issued by the Census Bureau: the disc containing 1988 and 1987, and the disc with 1986 and 1987 CBP data. **************************************************************************** ** Installing these files for use with EXTRACT ** 1. To install auxiliary files for CBP, create a new directory on your hard disk and make this the current directory: MD \CBPAUXIL CD \CBPAUXIL 2. Uncompress the auxiliary files onto your hard disk: a:CBPAUXIL CBPAUXIL.EXE is a "self-extracting" archive containing catalog, data dictionary and other auxiliary files which EXTRACT needs in order to select and display data from the CBP CD-ROMs. The uncompressed files will require 821 kilobytes on your hard disk. If you are also installing auxiliary files for other CD-ROMs, e.g., CCDB, do not place them in the same subdirectory on your hard disk as these CBP files. If you previously installed the earlier version of CBPAUXIL (for the 1986/87 disc), the new CBPAUXIL.EXE program will warn you before overwriting each of a number of files that already exist on your hard disk. Each time it asks "Overwrite?" type "Y". **************************************************************************** ** Starting EXTRACT to work with CBP files ** 1. Make the directory with EXTRACT.EXE in it the current directory: CD \EXTRACT 2. Start the program. EXTRACT 3. You will be asked to specify some drives and directories. If your configuration includes a CD-ROM reader, you must specify a CD-ROM drive letter. This is the letter you assigned when you first installed the reader; often, the reader is assigned the letter "L". You also will be asked to specify a "work directory." This is any directory on your hard disk (e.g., \WORK), which EXTRACT uses to store temporary files; be sure to create the directory before using it in EXTRACT! When the system asks for the location of auxiliary files, specify the subdirectory where you installed the auxiliary files for the CD-ROM you are using, e.g., C:\CBPAUXIL. **************************************************************************** ** For More Information ** See the documentation, EXTRACT.DOC, which is created by the program EXTRCT12, available separately. If you frequently use more than one CD-ROM with the EXTRACT program, see the discussion of command-line parameters toward the end of EXTRACT.DOC. ****************************************************************************
