Welcome Welcome to the Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP) computer-based training course. By the end of this course, you should be able to participate as a staff planner in any organization from the battalion or squadron level up to a MEF. System Requirements Pentium 75 no less than 486/66 2 MB of VRAM 16 MB of RAM Capability of displaying thousands of colors Sound card capable of 22 kHz, 16-bit sound MS Windows 3.1 or higher No less than 640x480 screen resolution Dual speed CD-ROM Running the MCPP program on a 486/66 will result in slow screen changes and general program unpredictability. MCPP Setup Setup searches your computer for the equipment and software needed to run the MCPP course optimally. If you are lacking required equipment or software, you will be prompted that this training will not run on your computer or that you must make a specific change. If you receive a prompt, follow the screen instructions to resolve the problem. If your computer does not have QuickTime for Windows or Acrobat Reader, Setup will install them for you. Steps for Running Setup 1. Start Windows. If Windows is already running, quit all applications. 2. Insert the MCPP disc into your CD-ROM drive. 3. For Windows 3.1: From the Windows Program Manager, choose Run from the File pull-down menu. Steps for Running Setup (cont.) For Windows 95: Under the Start menu, choose Run. 4. From the Run dialog box, select Browse, then select the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive. From this directory listed for the CD-ROM, select setup.exe if you have Windows 3.1 or select setup95.exe if you have Windows 95. Click OK. When the Run dialog box reappears, click OK. 5. Click Start to run the setup. 6. Type in the drive letter of your CD-ROM. Click OK. 7. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the setup. If Setup determines that your screen resolution needs to be adjusted to 640x480, follow the instructions on the next page. Adjusting the screen to 640x480 displays the course full-screen. Screen Resolution Adjustment Windows 3.1 1. Double-click the Main icon in the Windows Program Manager. 2. Double-click on Windows Setup. 3. From the dialog box, select Change Systems Settings from the Options pull-down menu. 4. Beside Display, scroll to a 640x480 (at least 16,000 colors) color display driver. 5. Click OK. 6. Restart Windows. Screen Resolution Adjustment Windows 95 1. Under the Start menu, choose Settings, Control Panel. 2. Double-click the Display icon. 3. Select the Settings button and choose a color palette that is at least High Color (16-bit).' 4. Click OK. 5. Click Yes to restart your computer. Running MCPP Course Windows 3.1 In Windows Program Manager, select the MCPP program group and double-click on the MCPP icon to begin the course. Windows 95 Under the Start menu, choose Programs, Marine Corps Planning Process, and MCPP. From the Windows Program Manager, choose Run from the File pull-down menu. From the Run dialog box, select Browse, then select the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive. From this directory, select mcpp.exe. Click OK. When the Run dialog box reappears, click OK. During setup, this message appears: Cannot find ole2.dll. You need to run setup.exe. This message appears when you run setup.95 in a Windows 3.1 environment. Troubleshooting IF: THEN: During setup, messages appear saying you do not have the required hardware and you know that you do. You may be running the wrong setup. These messages appear when you run setup.exe in a Windows 95 environment. Run setup.95. You can see your Windows desktop when the course is running. Change your display to 640x480. The colors look dark and ugly. Check to see if your computer has the capability of displaying thousands of colors. Troubleshooting IF: THEN: Text goes outside the screen area when in the course. Install the required fonts from the MCPP disc. See your Windows manual for font installation instructions. Sound does not play or drops out. Check to see if: The sound card is capable of 22kHz, 16-bit. The sound card is properly installed. The sound drivers are installed. The computer has 2 MB of VRAM. Sound plays from only one speaker. Check to see if: The sound card is properly installed. Speakers are plugged into the sound card. Troubleshooting IF: THEN: You cannot access material from the Scenario and/or References pull-down menus in the course. Install Acrobat Reader. You may have skipped it during setup. This message appears when in the course: A3W Quick Time. Unable to open "file name" as a Quick Time for windows movie. Install QuickTime for Windows. You may have skipped it during setup.
