SANDISON, HELEN ESTABROOK: 1884-

Helen Estabrook Sandison was born in Terre Haute, Ind., on Sept. 16, 1884. She received the following degrees from Bryn Mawr College: A.B. in 1906, A.M. in 1907, and Ph.D. in 1911. She was an assistant principal of a high school in Indiana , 1907-08, and a reader in English at Bryn Mawr College, 1911-13. From 1913 until her retirement in 1950 Miss Sandison taught at Vassar College and served as chairman of the English department, 1931-46. She was awarded the Crawshay Prize by the British Academy in 1956 and has edited the poems of Sir A. Gorges.
