RUSSELL, JOSIAH COX: 1900-

Born in Richmond, Ind., on Sept. 3, 1900, Josiah Cox Russell was the son of Elbert and Lisnetta Cox Russell. He earned the A.B. degree from Earlham College in 1922 and the degrees of A.M. in 1923 and Ph.D. in 1926 from Harvard University. He married Ruth Winslow in 1924. Russell taught history at Radcliffe College, 1923-24; Harvard University, 1924-26; Colorado College, 1927-29; New Mexico Normal, 1929-31; and the University of North Carolina, 1931-35. In 1935 he joined the faculty of the University of New Mexico.
