RIKER, BEN H.: 1889-1962.

Ben H. Riker was born on Jan. 19, 1889, in Saint Paris, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1911 where he edited the student newspaper. He taught English at Shawnee High School ( Okla. ) and wrote advertising copy for the Prest-O-Lite Corporation, 1912-19. For a short while he owned and operated a bookstore in Des Moines, Iowa, and in 1926 became manager of a bookstore in Detroit . From 1932 until his retirement in 1954 Riker was manager of the book department of L. S. Ayres and Company. He served as chairman of the publications committee of the Indiana Historical Society for several years and was president of the Indianapolis Literary Club, 1947-48. He wrote a number of essays and pamphlets on retail bookselling and died on Dec. 25, 1962.
