RICHEY, HERMAN GLENN: 1897-

A native of Clay County, Ind., Herman Glenn Richey was born on Nov. 4, 1897, the son of George Willard and Susan May Bennett Richey. He earned the following degrees : A.B. in 1920 from Indiana State Teachers College, Ph.M. in 1924 from the University of Wisconsin, and A.M. in 1927 and Ph.D. in 1930 from the University of Chicago. He married Marie Magdalena Rousseau on Aug. 9, 1923, and they had one son, Herman Glenn, Jr.

Richey began his career as a high school principal in North Terre Haute, Ind. He joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1928 where he was also research secretary in the laboratory schools and dean of students in the graduate school of education. He retired from that institution in 1965. He served on many survey commissions and was secretary-treasurer and member of the board of directors, National Society for the Study of Education.
