NUTTING, WILLIS DWIGHT: 1900-

Willis Dwight Nutting is a native of Iowa City, Iowa. He was born on March 10, 1900, the son of Charles and Eloise Willis Nutting. He received an undergraduate degree in 1921 and a doctorate in 1933 from the State University of Iowa and the bachelor of arts and bachelor of letters degrees in 1924 from Oxford University. He married Eileen Barry on Aug. 1, 1934, and they had three children: Theresa, Charles, and Theodore. Nutting taught Greek and German at the College of Saint Teresa ( Winona Minn. ) and joined the faculty of the University of Notre Dame in 1936. He conducted Great Books seminars and related courses in the general program and was a member of the Rhodes scholar selection committee in Indiana . He retired in 1965.
