NOLAND, STEPHEN CROAN: 1887-1962.

Stephen Croan Noland was bomin Richland Township Ind. , on Aug. 5, 1887. He was the son of John Henry and Leonora Croan Noland and studied at Harvard University, 1910-13. He married Teresa Murray on June 11, 1913, and they had four children: John Henry, Elizabeth Anne, Stephen Murray, and David Blair. He married his second wife, Rosalind Swain, on July 10, 1948. Noland joined the INDIANAPOLIS NEWS staff as an editorial assistant in 1914; was an editorial writer, 1919-33; and served as editor from 1934 until his retirement in 1949. He was president of the Stephen C. Noland Publishing Company and editor-publisher of the MARION COUNTY MAIL. He served with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I and on the Indiana Economic Council and the Indiana Sesquicentennial Commission. Noland died on March 11, 1962.
