NOLAN, JEANNETTE COVERT (MRS. VAL FRANCIS): 1897-

The daughter of Charles Grant and Grace L. Tucker Covert, Jeannette Covert was born on March 31, 1897, in Evansville, Ind. She attended local public schools. In 1917 she married Val Francis Nolan and they had three children: Val, Jr., Alan, and Kathleen.

Mrs. Nolan was a newspaper reporter in Evansville, Ind., 1914-16, and wrote the column "Lines with a Hoosier Accent" for the INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 1943-44. She was a staff member, Indiana University Writers Conference, five summers; staff member, Rocky Mountain Writers Conference, University of Colorado, two summers; and instructor of juvenile writing at Indiana University ( Indianapolis ). She won the Indiana Authors Day Award for the most distinguished juvenile book by an Indiana author in 1955 and 1961. Mrs. Nolan also writes under the name Caroline Tucker.
