NOBLITT, LOREN SCOTT: 1888-

Loren Scott Noblitt was born on Sept. 23, 1888, in Bartholomew County, Ind., the son of John W. and Hannah E. Barkes Noblitt. He received the degrees of B.S. in 1918 and M.S. in 1924 from New York University and graduated from Zarephath Bible Institute (N.J.). He married Minnie Walls on June 25, 1908, and they had three children : Alma Joyce, Loren Walls, and Charles Robert. Noblitt began teaching in district schools at the age of seventeen and later at Columbus High School. For many years he was head of the mathematics and physics departments at Indiana Central College which awarded him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. He taught at other institutions including the Purdue University Center ( Columbus ) and retired in 1954. An ordained minister in the Evangelical United Brethren church, he served rural congregations on Sunday in addition to his college teaching duties during the week. Noblitt and his brother presented an astronomical observatory to Indiana Central College.
