NIXON, JUSTIN WROE: 1886-1958.

Justin Wroe Nixon was born in Delphi, Ind., on Feb. 23, 1886. He was the son of Harmon Ausburn and Eva Arminta Wroe Nixon. He earned an A.B. degree from Denison University in 1905 and graduated from Rochester Theological Seminary in 1908. He received D.D. degrees from the College of the Ozarks in 1925 and Miami University in 1931. He married Ida Elizabeth Wickenden on June 12, 1914, and they had five children: John, Charles, Elizabeth, Alice, and Justin. Nixon was ordained a Baptist minister in 1919. He taught in divinity schools and held pastorates in a number of cities. In 1937 he became professor of Christian theology and ethics at Colgate-Divinity School where he remained until his retirement in 1954. He served in World War I and died on July 11, 1958.
