NELSON, JOHN ROBERT: 1920-

John Robert Nelson was born in Winona Lake, Ind., on Aug. 21, 1920. He was married in 1945 and is the father of two children. He received the A.B. degree in 1941 from DePauw University; B.D. degree in 1944 from Yale University; and Dr.Theol. degree in 1951 from the University of Zurich. He has been awarded several honorary degrees.

Nelson worked for the Wesley foundations at the University of North Carolina, 1946-48, and the University of Illinois, 1950-51. He was study secretary for the United Student Christian Council, 1951-53, and executive secretary for the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches, 1953-57. He was dean of the divinity school at Vanderbilt University, 1957-60; taught at Princeton Theological Seminary, 1960-61, and Oberlin College, 1962-65; and became professor of systematic theology at Boston University in 1965. Nelson has been an editor-at-large for CHRISTIAN CENTURY.
