NAKARI, TOYOZO WADA: 1898-

Born in Kyoto, Japan, on May 16, 1898, Toyozo Wada Nakari is the son of Tosui and Wakae Harada Nakari. He earned the A.B. degree from Kokugakuin University ( Tokyo ) in 1920; the degrees of A.B. in 1924 and A.M. in 1925 from Butler University; and the Ph.D. degree in 1930 from the University of Michigan. He married Frances Aileen Yorn on June 22, 1933, and they had two sons, Charles and Frederick. Nakari immigrated to the United State in 1923 and was naturalized in 1953. He taught school in Japan , 1920-23, and at the College of Missions ( Indianapolis ), 1923-25. He joined the faculty of Butler University in 1927 and was head of the department of semantics, 1931-65. He has taught at other institutions and has received several awards and prizes.
