CHENOWETH, CAROLINE VAN DUSEN (MRS. BERNARD PEEL): 1846-?
Caroline Van Dusen
, daughter of Charles Van Dusen, was born on the
Indiana
side of the Ohio River, not far from Louisville, Ky., on Dec. 29, 1846.
When quite young she married Col. Bernard Peel Chenoweth, who
died while serving as U. S. consul at Canton, China. After his death Mrs.
Chenoweth settled the affairs of the consulate and returned to the U.
S. She lectured on English literature at Smith College in
1883-84 and became associate editor
of the MEDICO-LEGAL JOURNAL,
published in
New York
.
