BURTON, ALMA HOLMAN (MRS. GEORGE W.): 1855-?
Born in Noblesville, Ind., in 1855, Alma Holman graduated from De Pauw University in 1877 and received the A.M. degree in 1880.
From 1877 to 1879 she was principal of the high school at Huntington, Ind. She studied in Europe from 1880 to 1882 and again from 1883 to 1884. In 1882 she was an instructor in modern languages at Stanford Female Seminary in Kentucky. From 1882 to 1885 she was connected with De Pauw University as professor of modern languages and literatures.
She married George W. Burton on Nov. 26, 1885. He died in 1900.
From 1909 to 1920 Mrs. Burton was dean of the Girls' School, Malolos, Dulacan, P. I., but in 1920 resigned to devote herself to literary work and to study in France .
