BROOKS, SAMUEL: ?-
Mr. Brooks was evidently a Hoosier of long standing in 1881, for lines from his autobiographical verses read:
"We lived within the Hoosier State"
Another:
"I lived in Jefferson [presumably county] before I came here …"
And a couplet which is descriptive of housing shortages in the middle of the Nineteenth century reads [again it is the county to which the author refers]: "I came to Hancock in the year thirty-two, The houses were scarce and the people were few."
