BRENGLE, SAMUEL LOGAN: 1860-1935.
Born at Fredericksburg, Ind., in 1860, Samuel Logan Brengle graduated from De Pauw University in 1883 and studied theology at Boston University. He married Elizabeth R. Swift in May of 1887. She died in 1915.
After serving as pastor of a Methodist Episcopal Church in South Bend, Ind., he joined the Salvation Army and in 1887 was sent to England to be trained. He returned to the U. S. in November and began his work at Taunton, Mass., later serving in Danbury, Conn., Boston, Portland, Me., Chicago, and New York . In 1926 he was appointed commissioner, being the first American to attain this rank.
He retired in 1931 and died at Scarsdale, N. Y., on May 20, 1935.
