BRINGHURST, THOMAS HALL: 1819-1899.

Thomas Hall Bringhurst , son of Robert R. and Mary Wood Bringhurst, was born in Philadelphia on Aug. 20, 1819. After serving a five-year apprenticeship to a cabinet maker, he practiced his trade in Alabama and in Dayton, O., before moving to Logansport, Ind., in 1845, where he spent the remainder of his life.

In Logansport he engaged in the manufacture of lumber for several years. His business was interrupted, however, by one year's service in the Mexican War. In 1848 he established the LOGANSPORT JOURNAL, which he edited until 1870. During the Civil War he served as colonel of the 46th Indiana Infantry from 1861 until the close of the war.

From 1870 to 1876 he was a special agent in the Post Office Department, and in 1877 he became a partner in the Logansport Manufacturing Company, which manufactured spokes and other wood materials for wagons and carriages.

Mr. Bringhurst served as mayor of Logansport for three terms. He was married twice. He died on May 23, 1899.
