Series:
The Bills of the Play, and Programs, 1857-1928
|
| |
Scope Note:
This extensive group of almost 1250 items is divided into four manageable
sections: I. the Goldens' performances in New Harmony; II. the
Goldens'performances other than in New Harmony; Indianapolis; numerous towns
in Texas; as members of several companies; cities and towns of the Midwest,
in the east and southeast; and a bound collection of playbills of
performances at the New Metropolitan Theatre in Evansville, 1865-1866. III.
two packets of large-dimensioned playbills in color measuring 23" X 30" and
16" X 39"; IV. playbills and programs featuring other than Goldens in mostly
New York theatres.
The manuscript plays and the printed plays illustrate what the Golden Troupe
could have done during their stage careers; the playbills are concrete
evidence of what they actually accomplished.
Because of the fragiile condition and difficulty of preserving them,
examination of the playbills is strictly
limited.
