Biographical Note

Arthur Fisher Bentley, 1870-1957, was a philosopher and author. Bentley received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1895. He wrote for the Chicago Times-Herald (later the Record-Herald) until 1910, when he retired to work and write at his orchard in Paoli, Indiana. During World War I, Bentley was a member of the Red Cross.

Arrangement

The collection is organized into the following series: I. Correspondence; II. Writings; and, III. Miscellaneous.

Scope and Content Note

The Bentley mss. II, 1890-1965, consists of the correspondence, writings, and publication miscellanea of Arthur Fisher Bentley, 1870-1957, philosopher and author. Correspondents in the collection include: Charles Bentley, Hutchins Hapgood, and Neith Hapgood. There is also numerous correspondence between Bentley and his publishers, and with offices of the Red Cross (during the war years). Correspondence following Bentley's death is that of his widow, Imogene (Shaw) Bentley. The correspondence is arranged chronologically.
