Transcription:

As a hungry Eagle was/ Seeking for Prey,/ He spy'd a young Child in/ A Cradle that lay;/ the Mother was absent,/ And no creature by,/ So the Baby he seiz'd and/ Flew up to the Sky:/ The Child cry'd and scream'd/ But his Tears were in vain,/ For his Life was soon ended,/ And with it all pain.

Description of item:

No hanger

Transcription:

As one drop of Water to the Great/ and Wide Sea: or as one Grain of/ Sand to the Multitude on the Sea Shore,/ so is the Longest Life, when compared/ with the days of Eternity. Then/ what would it profit a Man to gain the/ whole World, and Lose his own Soul?/ Would not that man be worse than a Fool,/ that would accept of the whole World/ or of any thing in it upon such very/ bad terms.

Title of card: The Old Man and Death. A Fable.

Transcription:

Quite spent with a Burthen of Sticks, an old Clown/ To rest himself, on a Bank sat him down:/ Then call'd upon Death, and beg'd he wou'd please/ To shorten his Life, that he might have some ease./ Straight all of a sudden, pale Death did appear,/ Which made my old Gaffar's Teeth chatter with Fear;/ I call'd you, says he, Mr. Death in a Maggot,/ But now you are here, help me up with my Faggot.

Roger Bowyer, with a Sheep/ that has its Legs tied to-/ gether, hanging over his arm;/ he is going to sell it, at Cole-/ brook Market, & as he walks a-/ long he hears the Cuckoo Sing,/ which makes him lift up his/ hand in great surprize, it being/ in the month of March.
