IN SENATE.

MONDAY, January 10,1881-1:30 p.m.

The president pro tem. took the Chair pursuant to the adjournment from Saturday, and laid before the Senate a message from the Governor, inviting the advice and consent of the Seanate to the following nomination: Joseph Gilbert, to fill a vacancy in the Board of Trustees of the State Normal School for residue of term ending December 20, 1881; James F. Harvey, to fill a vacancy in the Board of Trustees of the Asylum for Feeble-Minded Children for residue of the term ending April 1, 1881; Mrs. Eliza J. Dodd, to fill a vacancy in the Board of Managers of the Indiana Reformatory Institution for Women for the residue of the term ending March 7,1883; Daniel Mowrer, to fill a vacancy in the Board for the Education of the Blind for residue of the term ending February 1, 1883; James A. Cravens, to fill a vacancy in the Board of Trustees of the Institution for Educating the Deaf and Dumb for the residue of the term ending February 1, 1883; William V. Wiles, Trustee for the Institute for the Education of the Blind for four years from February 1, 1881; Milton James, Trustee for the Institute for Educating the Deaf and Dumb for four years from February 1, 1881; Robert H. Tarleton, Trustee for the Hospital for the Insane for four years from February 1, 1881.

The President pro tem. also laid before the Senate a communication from the Governor in reference to the collection of books written by or about Indiana citizens, and about the territory and resources of the State, made by the late Daniel Hough, and recommending the appointment of a Joint Committee to inquire into the expediency of purchasing the same for the State Library.

Mr. Chapman moved that the nominations be referred to appropriate Committees.

The President pro tem. supposed it was not intended to take action on them at this time.

Mr. Menzies offered a resolution which was adopted by consent, that the thanks of the Senate be and are hereby extended to General M. D. Manson, Auditor of State, for the efficient and impartial manner in which he discharged his duties in the organization of the Senate.

On motion by Mr. Hefron, it was ordered that immediately after witnessing the inaugural ceremonies of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor-elect, at English's Opera House, the Senate shall stand adjourned till to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock.

Mr. Comstock moved that the Senate proceed immediately to the place appointed, for the delivery of the recently elected Govenor's inaugural address.

The motion was agreed to, and thereupon the Senator left the Chamber,receded by a band of music, the incoming and retiring Governors, the Lieutenant Governor-elect, the President pro tem of the Senate, and followed by the officers an employes of the Senate.
