FEES AND SALARIES.
The bill [S. 292] regulating the fees of officers, and providing penalties for its violation, repealing certain acts therein named, and providing duties for State, county and township officers, and matters properly connected therewith, and declaring an emergency, was read twice under a suspension of the restriction.
Mr. Walker proposed to refer the bill to the Committee on Fees and Salaries.
Mr. Brett moved to amend the motion so as to make the reference to a special committee of one from each Congressional District.
Mr. Woollen and Mr. Griffin preferred to make the bill a special order, and opposed the reference.
Mr. Brett's motion was rejected - affirmative 39, negative 41.
On motion of Mr. Shirley, the bill was made the special order for to-morrow at ten o'clock A. M.
