HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

MONDAY, February 10, 1873.

The House met at two o'clock p. M.. pursuant to adjournment. The prayer by the Rev. Mr. Smith, of this city.

The journal of Friday was read and approved.

The committees failing to respond to the call for the first order of business, the speaker proceeded to call the House by counties and districts for

NEW PROPOSITIONS.

Mr. Baker introduced a bill [H. R. 467] to ameud the act of December 21, 1865, relative to foreign, insurance companies doing business in this State, prescribing the duties of the agents thereof, etc. (It proposes to require the excess of $2,000 agency fees on premiums to be paid into the State treasury.) He desired tnat it be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means; but, on the motion of Mr. Kimball, it was referred to the Committee on Insurance.

Mr. B. also introduced a bill [H. R. 468] to repeal all laws, whereby stockholders in corporations are held liable for the debts of said corporations. It was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Ogden introduced a bill [H. R. 469] for an act to amend the twenty-second section of the act of June 1, 1852, as amended March 2, 1867, as amended March 8, 1857, for the incorporation of towns, defining their power, duties, etc. (It contains a provision that the Board of Trustees may require for any liquor selling license double the amount of tax required under the general laws of the State, etc.) It was referred to the Committee on Cities and Towns.

Mr. Crumpacker introduced a bill [H. R. 470] to amend the act of December, 1872, to fix the per diem and mileage of members of the General Assembly, and providing that they shall provide their own stationery. (It proposes to reduce the per diem from eight dollars to five dollars.) It was referred to the Committee on Fees and Salaries.

Mr. Peed presented a petition, which was referred, without reading, to the Joint Select Committee of Redistricting the State for Judicial Purposes.

On the motion of Mr. Edwards, of Lawrence, (there being no quorum present,) the House adjourned.
