THE
BREVIER LEGISLATIVE REPORTS.
VOLUME FOURTEEN.
INDIANA LEGISLATURE.

SENATE.

MONDAY, February 10, 1873.

When the President called the Senate to order there was no quorum, so the session was adjourned until afternoon.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

The Lieutenant Governor took the chair and, after prayers by Mr. Clark, a representative from Hamilton county desired the reading of the Secretary's journal of Friday's proceedings, pending which a message from the House of Representatives was announced.

Mr. Brown thereupon suggested that on the last roll call no quorum was present.

Mr. Dittemore also rising to the same point of order, the Lieutenant Governor said we could go along with the reading of the journal, unless the Senator insisted on his point of order, and in a short time, no doubt, a quorum would appear.Mr. Dittemore and Mr. Brown acquiesced.

Mr. Friedley, of Lawrence, proposed to amend the journal.

The Lieutenant Governor said it would lie on the table.

Mr. Brown demanded a call of the Senate, or rather, he moved that the roll call be continued that it may be ascertained whether a quorum be present.

A call of the Senate was ordered, and being taken, discovered but thirty-three Senators present and answering to their names.

Mr. Dittemore moved to send for absentees.

Mr. Dwiggins moved to amend by ordering the doors closed.

Mr. Dittemore accepted the amendment.

Mr. Glessner believed all Senators now in the city were present, and thought it unnecessary to send after absentees.

Mr. Brown moved to adjourn.

The motion was agreed to, upon a division; affirmative 17; negative not announced. So an adjournment took place till ten o'clock to-morrow morning.
