Mr. MARCH has heard no good reason why this salary should be reduced.
Mr. TARKINGTON, should vote against the reduction and for the motion to indefinitely postpone.
Mr. SHIELDS thought $2000 would be sufficient salary for this officer, and with a view to get at the bill so as to thus amend it, he moved to lay the pending motion on the table.
This motion was rejected by yeas 6, nays 37.
The motion to indefinitely postpone the bill was agreed to by yeas 36, nays 6.
And then the Senate adjourned.
