Residence of M. C. Hunter

image number:

This is probably the residence of Morton Craig Hunter (1825-1896) which was located at the corner of 11th and Walnut in Bloomington, Indiana. See image P0021197. The home was added on to in later years and for all intents and purposes no longer looked like the home in this image when it was torn down in 1974. The home stood on the east side of Walnut at a point almost exactly east of where 11th Street dead ends at Walnut today (2017) and was set back from the Walnut about twenty yards. This image scanned from "A New Gazetteer Map of Monroe County Indiana. Showing the Township, Range Section..." by R. S. Davis, Civil Engineer and Surveyor. Published by Davis and Kennedy, 1856. The map is held in the map collections of the Indiana University Libraries, Bloomington, Indiana. The entire map can be viewed here: The library catalog record for this map can be viewed here: (the call number is: G4093.M7G46 1856 .D38). NOTE: The "Morgan Co." near the bottom of this image is part of the map of Monroe County showing where the border with Morgan County is located and does not indicate the home is in Morgan County.
