description:

Claude Akins attended I.U. only during the 1946-47 school year. According to The Red Book (student directory) he doesn't appear to have lived on campus, but rather in his hometown of Bedford, Indiana at 604 16th Street. In 1947 he entered Northwestern University from where he was graduated in June 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Speech.

He served in the Pacific during World War II with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. After leaving I.U., Claude Akins went on to a long career in movies, television and stage appearing in such movies as "From Here to Eternity", "The Caine Mutiny" and "Rio Bravo". He spent most of his career in television appearing in everything from "Dragnet" and "The Twilight Zone" to "77 Sunset Strip" and "The Lucy Show". He is best remembered for his role as Sheriff Lobo on the television series "BJ and the Bear".

He also appeared in television commercials for AAMCO and Poli-Grip.
