description:

This image scanned from page 5 of the December 26, 1925 edition of The Indiana Alumnus. One of the two captions for this image reads, in full: "City Council Votes To Pave Jordan Avenue A Five Organizations Sign Quadrangle Contracts".

The view is basically from the west looking east. The Jordan River and the Jordan Avenue bridge over the Jordan River can be seen to just left of center. The second caption reads, in part: "...three houses instead of four, will be constructed on the east side of Jordan Avenue as a result of the purchase of two lots by the S.A.E's...Houses in order around the quad from lower left are: Phi Mu, Delta Gamma, Theta Chi, Beta Theta Pi, Delta Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon."

Note the swimming pools along both sides of the Jordan River that were never built.

On page 6 of the February 20, 1926 (volume V, number 21) issue of The Indiana Alumnus it mentions that, in part: "The building of the...organization houses is to begin at once, according to Ralph Crowl, of the Crowl Organization of Madison, Wis...The Crowl company is to move into its new office quarters at 102 Citizens Bank building by Feb. 25...A small field house to be used as a contractor's office and tool house is to be erected on the quadrangle at once..."

This same image, along with an extensive article regarding the quadrangle, appears on page 3 of the Saturday October 30, 1926 edition of The Indiana Daily Student.
