Recruits and service flag during induction ceremony
From page 1 of the October 1, 1918 edition of The Indiana Daily Student, in part: "About 1,200 young men, students of Indiana University, took the oath of allegiance to the flag at 11 o'clock this morning, simultaneously with nearly 200,000 other young men in the United States...the men, who are candidates for the S.A.T.C. were lined up on Jordan Field...President Bryan and Captain A. T. Dalton, commander of the S.A.T.C. men in Bloomington, were the only two speakers of the program...the entire program was brief and did not last but about thirty minutes..."
