On October 26, 1958 Pan Am employee Sam Miller piloted the first scheduled United States trans-Atlantic jet passenger flight from New York to Paris. Actress Greer Garson was one of the passengers.

In 1946 an engine fell off the aircraft he was flying. He made an emergency landing with 42 passengers aboard that included actor Laurence Olivier and actress Vivien Leigh.

He died August 31, 2001.
