Dr. Tsiang, the commencement speaker, was a Chinese historian and, at the time, the secretary to the president of Kuomintang generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek. He had studied in America (Oberlin College and Columbia University) and had returned to represent Chiang at the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Conference where Herman Wells was a delegate as part of his duties with the U.S. State Department.
