When Dr. Edith Boyer Schuman, Head of the University Health Center, was away from campus, Dr. Bassett, an IU medical graduate, took responsibility over the infantile paralysis epidemic, when 15 ASTP soldiers came down with cases of polio. She had 65 under observation and checked on 400 others, successfully keeping the panic under control.
