The plaque reads, "At the gateway to the country where Abraham Lincoln lived his youth, Indiana University has established this Lincoln Room for those who would study and gain inspiration from the life and work of the great American. The records and literature here available have as a nucleus the Joseph B. Oakleaf Library[,] acquired by the University through the generosity of [the] Ball Brothers Foundation[,] William G. Irwin[, and] Frank L. Jones."

The collection was originally located in the main library when it was in Franklin Hall. The Lincoln Room can now be found at the Lilly Library.
