Joseph E. Davies, Commencement Speaker
Davies held many positions in the United States government. He was the first chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, the second US ambassador to the Soviet Union, and ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg. In 1942, Davies would become the chairman of President Roosevelt's War Relief Control Board and would later serve as special advisor to President Harry Truman. At the time he spoke at IU, he had just released his best-selling book Mission to Moscow.
