The artist, Charles Ray Binford, was from Indianapolis and attended Indiana University from September 1928 through the Spring of 1932. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) and was a Sophomore Editorial Assistant on the 1930 Arbutus yearbook. According to page 64 of the January 1930 edition of the Indiana University Alumni Quarterly this wall map was being sold by Mortar Board for the benefit of their loan fund. The maps sold for fifty cents which included postage.
