description:

This image appears in the 1946 Arbutus yearbook, page 354. The caption reads, in part: "Town House, instituted during the second semester of this school year as a temporary dormitory for veterans attending Indiana University, was a very active part of the Men's Residence Center...Town House has a location that might be called 'better than the best.' These fortunate men are fifteen feet from the Oasis, ten feet from Rol's, and adjacent to the V.F.W."

The "Oasis" refers to The Oasis Restaurant that was located at 214 South Walnut. "Rol's" refers to Roll's Grill (owned by Rollin Monday) that was located at 200 South Walnut (southwest corner of Walnut and Fourth and next door to the Town House). The V.F.W. is today (2017) Serendipity Martini Bar located at 201 South College.

The building seen here was located on the south side of Fourth Street just to the east of the alley that runs parallel to Walnut and College.
