An uncited newspaper article dated July 31, 1964 captions this image with the following: "HOOSIER MEMENTO BACK HOME. The 40-foot, 6-ton mast of the battleship U.S.S. Indiana, now being dismantled in San Francisco, arrived at Indiana University this week to be installed on campus at Bloomington. Shown inspecting the relic are (left to right) Capt. Robert O. Jackson, Indianapolis businessman and naval aide to Gov. Welsh; IU Administrative Assistant William Hepley, and IU Maintenance Supt. Bert H. Laws. A site for the mast has not yet been picked.
