Tyrrell founded "The Alternative" while a student at Indiana University. The Alternative later changed its name to "The American Spectator". The first issue of The Alternative was published in September 1967 by The Saturday Evening Club.

This image appears on page 15 of the January 1978 edition of the Indiana Alumni Magazine.
