description:

Due to a housing shortage, for a short time the board room / conference room in the President's Office was used to house students. The student population at I.U. more than doubled after the end of World War II. An October 14, 1946 Associate Press caption pasted to back of one print of this image reads, in full: "VETS SLEEP IN TRUSTEES ROOM: Indiana University's Board of Trustee's room, heretofore reserved for meetings of the governing board and council of deans, is now a dormitory for student war veterans. Twelve student veterans will use it as their campus home until emergency housing can be completed at the Bloomington, Ind, school." See also image P0023889.
