Thus, it is difficult to tell exactly when the photograph was shot. This same photograph can also be found in the scrapbook of basketball player Herman Schaefer (IU Archives accession number 7054). The image appears on and around pages of other materials surrounding the teams trip to Hollywood and San Francisco during the 1940-41 season. Examining schedules for both the 1939-40 and 1940-41 seasons seems to indicate that this image was indeed shot during the teams trip to California in December of 1940 as they played games at Stanford (Dec. 21), California (Dec. 23), Southern California (Dec. 27), and UCLA (Dec. 28). The team did not make a trip to California during the 1939-40 season |
